Dra. Erika Paola Gutiérrez Rodríguez Cirujana Plástica, Estética y Reconstructiva | Miembro del Sindicato Colombiano de Cirujanos Plásticos

Liposuction and liposculpture are surgical procedures that eliminate localized fat deposits resistant to exercise and diet, permanently reshaping the body contour. Dr. Erika Gutiérrez, a certified plastic, aesthetic, and reconstructive surgeon and a member of the Colombian Society of Plastic Surgeons, performs VASER liposculpture, 360° liposuction, high-definition abdominal marking, and lipectomy in Bogotá, using minimally invasive techniques that maximize skin retraction and shorten recovery time. With over 6,000 patients treated and training from the University of La Sabana and FUCS, she currently serves as a faculty member at the University of Sinú and in the burn and facial trauma unit at Simón Bolívar Hospital. Dr. Gutiérrez combines aesthetic judgment and medical rigor to achieve completely natural results, tailored to the anatomy and expectations of each patient.

 What is liposculpture?

Liposculpture is the evolution of traditional liposuction: it not only removes fat but also sculpts and defines the body contour by precisely treating multiple areas. Dr. Gutiérrez uses VASER technology (ultrasonic vibration) to liquefy the fat before extracting it, which allows for more selective work, better preservation of surrounding tissues, and greater skin retraction. The extracted fat can be processed and reinjected into areas with insufficient volume (lipotransfer), allowing for body shaping in a single session.

Dr. Erika Gutiérrez evaluates each case individually to determine the areas to be treated, the volume to be extracted, and whether it is advisable to combine liposculpture with abdominoplasty, lipectomy, or other procedures in a single surgical session.

VASER Liposculpture (ultrasonic)

Ultrasound technology that emulsifies fat before aspiration, allowing for greater selectivity, less bleeding, faster recovery, and better skin retraction. Ideal for fibrous areas such as the back, flanks, patients who have previously had liposuction, and for high-definition marking.

Conventional liposculpture with a single technology

Classic liposuction with precision cannulas to remove localized fat in one or multiple areas without ultrasonic technology. Indicated for moderate volumes and patients with good skin elasticity, who have not had previous liposuctions and are not athletes.

Types of liposuction and liposculpture performed by Dr. Erika Gutiérrez

Lipo 360°

Complete circumferential treatment of the abdomen, flanks, and back in a single session. Allows for harmonious waist remodeling in the 360 degrees of the torso, achieving a global transformation of the body contour.

High-definition abdominal marking

Advanced technique that combines VASER liposculpture with selective lipotransfer to create visible muscle definition in the abdomen (abs), obliques, and back. Requires a low body fat percentage and good baseline muscle tone.

Are you a candidate for liposculpture?

Dr. Erika Gutiérrez conducts a personalized assessment in consultation. In general, good candidates are:

• People with localized fat deposits that do not respond to exercise or diet.

• Patients with stable or near-ideal weight, without severe obesity.

• Those looking to redefine the waist, abdomen, flanks, thighs, arms, or back.

• People with good skin elasticity and no active smoking.

• Candidates over 18 years old in good general health with realistic expectations.

• Patients who wish to relocate their own fat through lipotransfer to the buttocks or face.

Liposuction plus lipectomy (with skin resection)

When there is excess skin in addition to fat, Dr. Gutiérrez combines liposculpture with lipectomy (removal of excess skin) to achieve a firm result without skin redundancies. Frequently part of the Mommy Makeover.

Lipotransfer (lipofilling)

The extracted fat is processed and reinjected into areas lacking volume: buttocks, hips, hands, or breasts. This allows for contouring and volume enhancement using the patient's own tissue, without implants.

How is liposculpture performed with Dr. Erika Gutiérrez?

1. Preoperative consultation and design: Dr. Gutiérrez evaluates the percentage of fat, skin elasticity, areas to be treated, and goals. Standardized clinical photographs are taken and results are planned.

2. Preoperative exams: Complete labs and cardiovascular assessment.

3. Surgery under general or epidural anesthesia: Duration of 2 to 4 hours depending on the areas. VASER technology emulsifies fat before aspiration for greater precision and less trauma.

4. Hospital recovery: Discharge on the same day or with one night of observation depending on the case and volume extracted.

5. Post-operative follow-up: Check-ups at 3, 8, 15, 21 and 30 days and at one year to monitor the evolution and the final result.

6. Long-term evaluations: 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year

Recovery and postoperative care

Relative rest. Use of a light compression garment from the first day. Mild discomfort controlled with medication. Normal fluid drainage. Start of manual lymphatic drainage as per medical indication.

Progressive decrease in inflammation. Start using compression garments, boards, and other accessories.

Return to non-physical daily activities. Return to work in sedentary jobs.

Low-impact exercise allowed. Continue using the garment. Results become increasingly visible as the edema subsides.

Full physical activity. Definitive results between 3 and 6 months post-surgery, when the skin has fully retracted.

Use of compression garment for 6 to 8 weeks, lymphatic drainage from the first week, avoid sun exposure on incisions, ample hydration.

Results – What to expect from liposculpture?

The results of liposculpture are permanent as long as a stable weight is maintained: the fat cells removed do not regenerate in the treated areas. The VASER technology used by Dr. Gutiérrez allows for greater skin retraction compared to traditional liposuction, reducing the risk of postoperative sagging. In the gallery, you can see real results in patients with different morphologies, treated areas, and skin types.

Frequently Asked Questions – Liposuction and Liposculpture in Bogotá

Answers from Dr. Erika Paola Gutiérrez Rodríguez, certified plastic surgeon and member of the Colombian Union of Plastic Surgeons.

How much does liposculpture cost in Bogotá?

Liposculpture using a single technology starts at $ 4,200 USD The final cost depends on the areas to be treated, the volume of fat, the technology used (conventional or VASER), and whether it is combined with other procedures. Dr. Erika Gutiérrez will determine the final price during the consultation. Colombia offers international surgical quality at significantly more competitive prices than in the U.S. or Europe.

What is the difference between liposuction and VASER liposculpture?

Conventional liposuction directly aspirates fat with cannulas. VASER liposculpture uses ultrasound to emulsify fat before aspirating it, allowing for greater selectivity, less damage to surrounding tissues, better skin retraction, and faster recovery. Dr. Gutiérrez uses VASER especially for high-definition abdominal marking and fibrous areas such as the back and flanks.

How many areas can be treated in a single session?

Dr. Gutiérrez can treat multiple areas in a single surgery: abdomen, flanks, back, waist, inner and outer thighs, arms, and double chin, among others. The limit is determined by the total volume of fat to be removed (generally depending on body weight and whether one or several procedures are performed, which can range from 5 to 6 liters under safe conditions) and the surgical time. This is defined in the preoperative assessment.

Are the results of liposuction permanent?

Yes. The removed fat cells do not regenerate in the treated areas. However, if there is significant weight gain after surgery, the remaining cells in the treated areas and in other areas of the body may increase in size. Maintaining weight is essential to preserve long-term results.

How long does liposculpture recovery take?

Initial recovery for non-physical daily activities takes 7 to 10 days. Low-impact exercise can be resumed after 3 weeks, and high-intensity training after 6 weeks. The compression garment should be worn for 8 to 10 weeks. The final result, with the skin fully retracted, is visible between 3 and 6 months post-surgery.

Does liposculpture help you lose weight?

No. Liposculpture is a body contouring procedure, not a weight loss procedure. It is indicated for removing localized fat resistant to exercise and diet, but it does not replace a healthy eating program and physical activity. The best results are obtained in patients with stable weight close to their ideal.

What is Lipo 360° High Tech and who is it for?

Lipo 360° High Tech is a complete circumferential treatment of the torso: abdomen, flanks, and back in a single session. Using VASER ultrasonic technology, it provides a higher quality result with no irregularities and better skin retraction. It allows for a harmonious reshaping of the waist from all angles. It is indicated for patients seeking a global transformation of the trunk contour, with fat accumulation in multiple areas simultaneously.

Is liposculpture safe in Colombia?

Yes. Dr. Erika Gutiérrez is a certified member of the Colombian Society of Plastic Surgeons. The procedures are performed in accredited clinics in Bogotá with international safety protocols, specialized anesthesiologists, and complete postoperative follow-up.

Can I combine liposculpture with other procedures?

Yes. Liposculpture is often combined with abdominoplasty, breast surgery, and other procedures as part of a Mommy Makeover. According to Colombian parameters, no more than 4 procedures can be performed in a single surgery, which ensures safety. It can also be combined with lipotransfer to reinject the extracted fat into the buttocks, face, or breasts. Dr. Gutiérrez evaluates the safest and most effective combination for each case during the assessment.

Do you treat international patients for liposculpture?

Yes. Dr. Erika Gutiérrez treats patients from Colombia, Latin America, the United States, Canada, and Spain, among others, with logistical coordination for medical tourism. The website is available in Spanish, English, and French.
